Customisable footwear brand co-founder Jodie Fox has cited growth opportunities and maximising profitability as the business' key focus following the announcement it will shutter its retail presence in David Jones and US department store Nordstrom.

Fox said that following a $15 million cash injection from Nordstrom, Bluesky and Greycroft last year the brand has allowed itself time to experiment as an omnichannel retailer before restructuring to pureplay online.

“Omni-channel retail has been hugely important for our success to date and both Nordstrom and David Jones have been incredible partners, playing a vital role in validating and giving people trust in this wild idea we had in a living room seven years ago, and giving our customers the experience they needed.

“There is a reason so many other new customisation brands are also experimenting with this channel.

“Where were are at now as a brand, business and product, we finally have everything in that sweet spot to refocus where our biggest global growth opportunity is and maximise profitability.”

Fox confirmed that Shoes of Prey is now focusing on strategies to secure the longevity of the business.

“I’m incredibly proud of what our team has achieved in the past 12 months and we are excited to refocus our efforts as an online retailer, giving women exactly what they want, when they want it, around the world.

“Our goal is to play a key role in driving a movement towards far more sustainable and profitable ways of manufacturing global fashion.”

Shoes of Prey will wind down its stores in David Jones and Nordstrom from this month.
