Iconic luxury French label Roger Vivier has launched in the Australian market.

The brand has opened its first store in Westfield Sydney, along with opening a wholesale account with David Jones.

General manager Camilla Schiavone told Ragtrader the brand will remain exclusive with no plans to open any other wholesale accounts.

“We have very few wholesale and we are really – I would say – the smallest distribution worldwide in this type of product.

“David Jones and Westfield are the best things we can imagine in Australia.

“We found an agreement between us that is [the] perfect occasion for both of us.”

Despite beginning in 1937, Roger Vivier's first flagship store did not open until 2004 in Paris.

All the stores' interiors combine French antiques with modern furnishings and art.

"Our shops are very recognisable all over the world because it is very French. It is a mix between modern and antique."

Schiavone started working with the label less than five years ago and has been responsible for helping it expand into Korea, Australia, Germany, Spain and soon Canada.

“The brand [is] very exclusive, very rare and this means for me, one boutique in each country or in each big city that you have all over the world.”

She said Australians are receiving the same product as those in the Northern Hemisphere as most of its styles transcend seasons.

Customers are able to purchase iconic styles such as the Belle Vivier first worn by Catherine Deneuve, the Choc, the Trompette and the Flower Strass, along with new season shoes and bags.

These iconic styles remain the best sellers around the world, Schiavone explained.

“What people know from the brand and when I do the analysis, the top 15 products all over the world are almost the same."

She said a Melbourne store will be next for Australia, but her real dream is to bring the brand's exhibition down under to share its rich history.

Roger Vivier is well known for designing the first stiletto, along with the Queen's coronation shoe.

The exhibition has already been through Paris and Korea, with Japan, China and Dubai next.

Customers will be able to read about the brand's history in store in one of its four books that showcase some of its iconic and archived shoes.

To date there are 55 boutiques globally.

“We are little but worldwide.”
