Organisers have announced the 2011 dates for Perth Fashion Festival (PFF), capitalising on the excitement stemming this week from fellow consumer event L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.

Western Australia's consumer fashion event will be held from September 21 to 27 and will include “exciting new events and venues”, festival director Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan said. PFF is part of an established base of consumer fashion programs including L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, which is currently in swing.

Among the events to be incorporated into the PFF program for the first time in 2011 will be a sneak preview of designer Kym Ellery's spring/summer 2011 collection. The womenswear designer, who hails from Western Australia, will debut her spring/summer designs to Perth's fashion set at an invitation-only show later this month.

“We are honoured that Kym has chosen PFF as the launching pad for her new collection. It is testament to the fact that Western Australia is becoming increasingly recognised for the unique flair of its local designers and talent,” Harvey-Hanrahan said.

Among the sponsors of PFF in 2011 are the City of Perth and the West Australian state government via its Department of Culture and Eventscorp agencies. Labels that took part in the fair last year included Bernice Sara, Flannel, Kooey, Liz Davenport and Ruth Tarvydas.

PFF was established 13 years ago and attracted over 44,000 visitors in 2010. The consumer event was due to be accompanied in May this year by the inaugural Perth Fashion Week, however the latter was recently postponed until February 2012 “to accommodate partner and sponsor opportunities”.

The festival is currently taking applications from designers keen to take part in 2011. Designers keen to learn more can visit http://www.perthfashionfestival.com.au/design2011.htm
