Australian corporate and healthcare apparel brand, NNT Uniforms, has launched a new range of socks and footwear, designed especially for healthcare workers.

The range includes six lightweight, sports-inspired women’s shoes.

Senior footwear designer Emma Shirgwin said there are key differences between the shoes in this collection and a standard athletic shoe.

“They’re a specific women’s fit, which is key for comfort and safety – while most sneakers are unisex,” she said.

“Uniquely, they are tested to a 25-gauge hypodermic needle drop [tested to ASTM F2878], offering protection against a needle or sharps drop onto the foot.

“They are also super lightweight at just 285 grams, which is similar to a professional runner’s shoe. And they have an SRC rated outsole for maximum slip resistance.

“Finally, with a removable footbed, they can be machine washed, and make it easy to fit orthotics, too.”

Shirgwin said that healthcare work varies, from nurses to doctors, which is why each style is designed for different customer needs.

“For example, the Zest is well suited to front-of-house roles, while the Vigor is ideal for wearing with scrubs, thanks to its pathogen-resistant upper.”

As well as new shoes, the range also includes socks, which are made with bamboo. According to NNT design expert Ann Morgan, these socks offer extra cushioning

“Bamboo is naturally anti-microbial, which means the fibre can repel odour causing bacteria and stay fresher for longer,” Morgan said.

“It’s also moisture wicking, taking perspiration away from the skin to keep the wearer comfortable and dry.

“Busy workers will do well with features like cushioned soles and arch support, to keep feet comfortable throughout their shift.

“We’ve designed these socks with healthcare workers in mind, combining the health benefits of bamboo with features such as ankle support and cushioning to take care of the feet.”
