Outland Denim has revealed it can employ a further 30 seamstresses, thanks to Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle.

Markle's numerous appearances in Outland Denim, while in Australia for the official Royal Tour, has prompted a surge in demand.

The social enterprise, which employs women impacted by exploitation, operates a production house based in Cambodia.

Founder James Bartle said the 'Meghan Markle effect' has created opportunities for vulnerable women.

“It is quite remarkable to think The Duchess of Sussex’s influence means more jobs almost immediately.

“This means women will be able to earn a living wage, provide for their children in terms of nutrition, care and education, and will gain new skills and confidence in a positive workplace environment.”

Markle wore the brand's Harriet jean on several occasions, including an appearance in Dubbo, the Invictus Games and upon her departure to Fiji.

Outland received an immediate spike in website traffic, with visitors from Uruguay to Russia resulting in strong denim sales.

The Harriet in Black sold out almost instantly in Australia with a sizeable waitlist, Bartle said.

“We are absolutely thrilled Meghan chose to wear Outland Denim, using her significant influence to create positive change in the lives of many young women.”
