Lowes managing director Linda Penn has vowed to keep the business open until the government mandates it to close.

The move comes as many Australian retailers choose to close their doors prior to an enforced shut down.

In a message to employees, Penn said that while the business was suffering, she will keep the doors open to allow the staff to continue to be paid.

"My dear colleagues," the letter begins.

"Lowes will remain open for business until the government requires the shopping centres and non-essential businesses to shut down.

"I have made the decision for us to remain open in a bid to pay all staff their usual wages.

"In the event that the government shuts us down, staff will be accessing their long service and annual leave entitlements.

"I am aware that our business is suffering terribly but I am determined to keep trading so that you can have security in knowing that you will receive your salaries as per usual.

"As always, I send you my best wishes that come with immense gratitude for all you are doing to keep our great company operating," she said.
