Kathmandu has launched the world's most sustainably designed hoodie, with each garment made from recycled, traceable materials and dyed with agricultural waste.

The Earth Hoodie is made from 70% recycled plastic bottles, 30% ethically sourced, traceable cotton and features fabric dyed with raw waste materials from agricultural crops.

Kathmandu GM product Ben Ryan said the product is a move in a better direction for sustainability and will allow for better practices within the industry.

“The design process has been about transforming an ordinary hoodie into a ground breaking garment. One that will open doors for more sustainable practices in the industry.

“As a result, we have questioned every detail of the garment from the trim, to the eyelets the Earth Hoodie to ensure it really is at the forefront of sustainable fashion.”

Ryan also discussed the new feature, Earthcolors by Archroma, which utilises smart technology to allow the consumer to track the natural waste material.

“We first heard about Earthcolors technology when it was in its infancy. We were really eager to incorporate the technology into our products, and waited many years for the dye to become available for commercial use.

"By investing in these new technologies, we can continue to innovate across all of our products."

The Earth Hoodie is available in slate blue, burnt olive and burlwood rose in both men’s and women’s cuts and is being rolled out in stores nationwide.

Kathmandu will also look to expand the Earth range to include knit tees, woven shirts, pants and possibly equipment in the future.
