Kathmandu has posted an 18 per cent increase in sales - so why is it expecting half year profit to fall?

Kathmandu generated sales of $NZ84.1 million ($AU76.5 million) for the six weeks to November 16.

This is up 18.6 per cent on the same period last year.

Kathmandu post-winter clearance campaigns were the main driver of strong sales growth and exceeded expectations.

However, the company said lower prices impacted profit margins.

This is expected to lower margins for the first half of the financial year, with profit in the second half dependent on Christmas trade.
