Jeanswest has released a capsule collection manufactured in Ghana.

The denim retailer has partnered with Ethical Apparel Africa (EAA) to create the range, engaging local businesses in Ghana to produce an ethical apparel range.

Together with EAA, Jeanswest has worked with Atmek; a traditional Kente Cloth workshop in Ghana which has produced the Kente Cloth featured in the Africa range.

Originating from Ghana, ‘Kente’ is hand woven technique, traditionally made from brightly coloured cotton.

Hand woven strips are constructed on traditional looms, and then sewn together to make the cloth.

Mastering the art of Kente takes the weavers up to three years of training.

Funds from the partnership will go towards establishing a weaving school.

Jeanswest has also partnered with Cadling, a Ghanaian factory to manufacture the range.

Cadling’s 60 employees are paid at least 40% above minimum wage.

The range starts at $49.95 for a hand-beaded cami and $99.99 for a Kente skirt.
