Cotton industries from Australia and the US are partnering to promote the Cotton LEADS program at the Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics trade show commencing today.

The program aims to promote cotton as a preferred natural fiber, with US and Australian industries offering retailers and manufacturers a socially responsible cotton supply chain solution.

Cotton Australia project lead for the Cotton LEADS program said that the event in Shanghai will allow global industry partners to be updated on the organisation's long-term strategic goals.

"In a global market crowded by factory-produced synthetic fibers, Intertextile represents a tremendous opportunity for the Australian and U.S. cotton industries to come together to promote our natural fiber.”

Cotton Incorporated global supply chain marketing senior vice president Mark Messura believes that the partnership could benefit Australian cotton farmers.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with our Cotton LEADS™ global partner community of more than 330, retailers, manufacturers and brands from around the world.

“These partner companies value the commitment to responsibly-produced cotton and the continual improvement efforts of U.S. and Australian farmers.”

"Our presence at Intertextile also reinforces the importance of natural fibers like cotton in global markets, and the natural, sustainable alternatives that cotton offers companies and consumers.”

The trade show will run until October 15.
