Australian retailer General Pants Co. is set to continue its US expansion with the opening of its New York City store next month.

The Local by General Pants Co. is a boutique concept store that will also house the company's wholesale office and showrooms.

The 180sqm space includes design features such as copper trim, semi gloss black powder and spotted gum timber finishes, with local Australian artists commissioned to complete artworks for the store.

Australian brands including Ksubi, Insight, Zanerobe, Standard, The People Vs., Rolla’s, Neuw, Epokhe, Valley Eyewear and Barney Cools will be stocked in store.

General Pants Co. CEO Craig King said the success of the company's Los Angeles store was a big influence behind opening in NYC.

"Of course we wanted to open in New York, but with so many exciting boroughs the question was 'where?' After considerable exploration we finally found our ideal location on dynamic Howard St.

"Like LA, there's an abundance of expats in the area, but as we found on La Brea, our American friends and many tourists found the all-Aussie offer something fresh to get into.”

Located at 29 Howard Street in New York’s Soho district, the store will open March 17.
