Surfstitch might have taken out top honours at the 2012 Online Retail Industry Awards (ORIA), but it shared the limelight with the founders behind Shoes of Prey.

Surfstitch secured three awards at the event last night including Online Retailer of The Year, Best Pureplay Retailer and Best Site Optimisation.

The founders of Shoes Of Prey, who launched eyewear venture Sneaking Duck less than a year ago, also took home a slew of awards.

These included Best Use of Technology (Shoes of Prey), Most Innovative Online Retailer (Sneaking Duck), Best Customer Experience (Sneaking Duck) and the Industry Recognition Award for co-founder Michael Fox.

The awards, which seek to recognise excellence in online retail, were dominated by fashion wins with The Iconic scooping Best New Online Retailer and brandsExclusive winning the Best Mobile Commerce gong.

The ORIA judging panel included Steven Noble, Forrester Research; Dan Ferguson, VistaPrint; Jake Hird, Econsultancy; Martin Newman, Practicology; Ross McDonald, Google; Laura Yeomans, ShopStyle; Joanna Lord, SEOmoz and Grant Arnott, Power Retail.

Over 450 industry representatives attended the gala dinner.

The event ended day three of the Online Retailer Conference & E-Commerce Expo which runs from July 16 to 19.
