Buy Aussie Now has launched as a marketplace for Australian goods, following a successful capital raise in May.

The Australian-owned venture started as an Instagram page in mid-March, as the nation prepared to shut down amid COVID-19.

In four months, it has transformed into an Australian marketplace backed by investors.

Over 2,000 small to medium enterprises have registered through the website, which includes an apparel and footwear category.

Founder Mitch Catlin, who's career has included high-profile roles at Swisse and Myer, said the venture was born from tougher times.

"My business, like many other Aussies, was hit badly in late March when the marketing sector pretty much came to a standstill.

"I turned to creating a community of other businesses who were stressed and anxious and I was just so overwhelmed with the number of Aussies who needed help and mateship through a tough time."

The business is in the process of launching a digital magazine 'Australian Life' and hosts weekly Instagram Live sessions with entrepreneurs across Australia.

Australian businesses who list on the marketplace are charged up to 8%, with non-profits and indigenous owned businesses free of charges.

The move comes as Australian Made and eBay partner on a dedicated ‘Australian Made on eBay’ hub, allowing international users access to accredited goods.

The hub will feature products with Australian Made accreditation across a range of categories including fashion, health, beauty, automotive, and home and garden.

Since mid-April eBay has seen sales of goods made in Australia increase 54%, as demand for locally made goods soars during COVID-19.
