David Jones' $200 million redevelopment of its Sydney flagship site will include a "shoe heaven."

The department store has unveiled plans for the Elizabeth Street store, with an entire floor dedicated to luxury shoes.

The store will include three levels of womenswear, two levels of menswear, dedicated beauty and footwear floors, homewares and food in the basement and childrenswear on the top floor.

Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Gucci will be among the luxury footwear brands on offer.

The floor will also feature a champagne and dining bar.

Scheduled for completion in September, the redevelopment follows a $712.5 million writedown of the David Jones business by new owner Woolworths.

David Jones CEO David Thomas is confident the destination experience will attract customers.

"When you think of London and Selfridges, New York and Le Bon Marche or Galaries Lafayete in Paris, great department stores that are great tourist destinations, we want to be that place in Sydney," he said.
