David Jones CEO David Thomas has resigned from his role for personal reasons.
The shock resignation comes just days after the launch of David Jones' autumn/winter 2019 season in Tasmania.
The department store flew a host of influencers and media to Hobart for the lavish two-day event.
The move also follows the dismissal of a discrimination complaint against Thomas in November.
According to an external legal investigation commissioned by David Jones, he was cleared of any wrongdoing.
Former CEO Ian Nairn also departed for personal reasons in 2016, with the next CEO to be the fourth in five years.
Parent company Woolworths (South Africa) will appoint its CEO Ian Moir to run the department store until a new replacement is found.
