Australian footwear retailer Bstore has launched its one-for-one Tree Project, where it plants a tree for every pair of shoes bought.

Launched on March 15, the initiative sees Bstore plant a tree for every pair of shoes sold in-store or online.

The project will support reforestation projects in NSW, Victoria, WA and in Africa.

Bstore owner, Mike Edmiston, said that the initiative comes as the brand celebrates its 20th anniversary.

"This year marks the 20th birthday of Bstore.

"For 20 years, Bstore’s purpose has been to make feet smile.

"With the launch of our one-for-one Tree Project, we feel like our purpose is now so much bigger.

"By helping to reforest the world, we aren’t just making feet smile, we are now making the world smile.

"It just feels right," he said.

The project will see trees planted across land that had previously been cleared for agriculture and farming in WA and in bushfire devastated areas across NSW and Victoria.

In Africa, the initiative will generate job opportunities and income for those planting and maintaining the trees.

A number of the trees planted in Africa will be fruit trees, which will provide a source of food and long-term income.

Throughout the year, Bstore will keep customers updated on the volume of carbon emissions reduced through program.

"When it comes to the environment, every small initiative adds up to make an impact," Edmiston added.

"Reducing the catastrophic effects of climate change seems overwhelming, but by working together we can all make a difference," he said.

Bstore is encouraging customers to support the program by purchasing a pair of shoes from any of the 25 brands it stocks.

Brands stocked by Bstore include Birkenstock, Blundstone, Ecco, Dr. Martens, Crocs and Frankie4.
