Brooks Brothers has had a challenging launch into the Australian market, due to the delayed launch of its online store and heavy outlet sales.

Australian operator OrotonGroup revealed the news in a broader profit downgrade issued to shareholders today.

CEO and MD Mark Newman said the iconic American brand only commenced trading in the second half of fiscal 2014.

"The Brooks Brothers Business experienced larger start up costs and a greater loss than expected due to a delayed launch of the online store and a higher factory outlet sales mix in its first half trading period."

Newman said the brand will incur continuing startup investment.

Brooks Brothers launched into the market in February 2014, in Sydney’s Martin Place and Melbourne’s Emporium complex.

The company, which has made the suits of 39 out of 44 American presidents, announced it had planned to roll out nine stores.
