Big W collaborator and celebrity stylist Donny Galella has helped the retailer unveil its 2021 spring collection.

The 'staycation inspired' range has launched in-store and online and features prints, tie-dye kids styles and soft, flowing fabrics.

Galella said that the range also takes inspiration from the 'Cottage Core' trend on social media.

"A key trend this season is 'Cottage Core,' which takes cues from a season spent enjoying local outdoor escapes, garden picnics, and DIY crafting.

"As seen on the S/S 21 runways globally, you will be able to purchase black and white gingham pieces - which I especially love - but also retro florals and the washed laundered-denim look.

"Fabrics are crucial as seasons warm up, and I am loving the super soft washed tencel pieces, and the natural fibres of organic cotton and breathable natural linen blends to keep you fresh all day.

"The colour palettes for the season are reminiscent of those I spotted at Australian Fashion Week recently - lots of pinks, shades of yellow, green, peach and orange tone cream and crisp white," he said.

Controversially, Galella has gone against Gen Z's insistence that skinny jeans are out, with the celebrity stylist stating that skinny jeans have a spot in all wardrobes - a win for all who love the skinny jean.

"Everyone has been talking about the ‘death of the skinny jean’ but I personally think skinny jeans are fabulous and have a spot in all wardrobes," Galella said.

"However, for those wanting to dabble in trends the Summer Mum Jean and the Slouchy Jean are ones to keep an eye out for.

"It’s all about understanding what suits you, and most importantly, how comfortable you feel," he said.

In the homewares category, Big W also called on interiors expert and founder of Interiors Addict Jen Bishop to lend her expertise.
