Australian accessories label Bellroy has teamed up with New York designer Jeff Staple to launch a limited edition run of a customisable version of Bellroy’s signature sling bag.

The bag was created in the Miller Design Lab with the Staple Design founder stepping in as creative director for the second year running, helping Bellroy bring its ideas to life.

According to Bellroy co-founder and CEO, Andy Fallshaw the bag allows consumers to celebrate their individuality through customisation, especially during these times where art, nightlife and culture are significantly diminished.

"There has been a wave of innovation and expression as we look for ways to recreate the energy and release that our nightlife provides.

"The collaboration with Miller Design Lab has allowed us to fuel this need by providing users a blank canvas, via the Bellroy
sling bag, that they can then weave their own personality and story into.

"The end result is something no one else can replicate," he said.

Staple adds that despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, the Miller Design Lab encourages both designers and consumers to push boundaries through design.

"Australia is an incredibly creative market and the nightlife is the one time where their unique creativity and self-expression comes out in full force.

"Initiatives like Miller Design Lab, and our work with Bellroy, help celebrate this cultural and personal individuality through customisation.

"It’s an exciting partnership to be involved with," he said.

To celebrate the collaboration, a limited number of Miller Design Lab slings will be made available with Bellroy, who will  host an open digital design competition for consumers from May 31 to June 9.
