Yoga entrepreneur Victoria Csarmann has blasted digital influencers, and designer activewear brands, for damaging the overall understanding of the sport.

Csarmann by creating "perfectly manicured" Instagram content and poses, they are discouraging people from getting involved.

“Yoga is not about achieving anything specific, and should not be portrayed as something that some can, and others cannot do,” she said.

“Just because someone is super flexible or someone can hold a perfect handstand, this does not mean that their yoga is deeper, or more meaningful than someone who simply finds stillness by sitting and managing their breath.

When asked to comment on the social media side to modern day yoga, Victoria continued to question brand messaging.

“Unfortunately, social media can make it seems like ‘yoga’ is something you strive for, rather than simply something that is.

"When people feel like they cannot perform certain poses or movements, they then feel like yoga is not for them.

"That is not what yoga is about. Yoga is about finding what works for you, what brings you balance and calm, and that is different for everyone, and should never be compared against others.”

Csarmann has launched I Am That – Yoga in Collingwood, a space aimed at encouraging all people to take part in the movement.
