MELBOURNE: The Victorian Government has launched a campaign to encourage more fashion designers to apply for business grants.

An online guide to grant applications has been launched through Design Victoria, a government initiative aimed at assisting small to medium creative enterprises.

Dubbed 'Transform Your Business', the guide offers tips on writing strong grant applications as well as information on specific programs, closing dates, eligibility criteria and grant providers. Each grant listing also features a rating that indicates the time, effort and skill required to submit an application.

Design Victoria director Michelle Azzopardi said the guide was launched after the organisation conducted a survey of 600 local designers. She said 81 per cent of respondents said they had never applied for a grant, largely because they didn't know where to look or who to speak to.

"Designers seldom have the time or resources to spend trawling websites for grants and assistance opportunities or writing lengthy applications with no certainty of success."

The guide can be found at designvic.com/grants.
