MELBOURNE: New graduates from various fashion colleges have been granted an industry break by L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) and Sportsgirl.

Twelve emerging designers have been chosen by LMFF to take part in the 2011 National Graduate Showcase, to be held during the week long festival in March.

Sponsored by Sportsgirl, the showcase will consist of an evening catwalk event on March 16 at Central Pier, Docklands. The work will remain on display in the Graduate Collection Showroom on March 17 to boost media and industry exposure.

From Victoria, RMIT graduates Genevieve Kulesza, Jason Hewitt, Kate Sala, Laura Anderson and Sangeeta Singh will take part.

University of Technology NSW graduates involved are Jennifer Chua, Jessica O’Connor, Sarah Mok and Kate Watson.

From Curtin University in Western Australia, finalists are Celene Bridge and Jennifer Nebel.

Ana Diaz from Queensland University of Technology is the solo Queensland representative.

The National Graduate Showcase will officially be launched in Melbourne on January 28, at a brunch hosted by LMFF creative director Grant Pearce and Sportsgirl chief executive officer Elle Roseby. The designers will be flown in for the occasion and have the chance to meet industry representatives.

LMFF will be held from March 14 to 20. It is the third year the National Graduate Showcase has been held.
