NATIONAL: Youth fashion retailers have tuned into Generation Y's environmental consciousness and thrown their weight behind Enviroweek.
Jay Jays are
currently selling eco-friendly t-shirts and bags in aid of the the cause. All
profits from the sale of these items will be donated to the not-for-profit event
organiser, Cool Australia.
Glue Store
is also supporting the initiative and will not use plastic bags in its 17 stores
during Enviroweek. The youth retailer has raised $5000 towards the cause and
staff have made personal 'green' pledges.
Enviroweek
will run from October 11 - 17. The initiative encourages individuals and groups
to embark on an environmental challenge for the duration of the week and seek
sponsorship for their efforts. Organisers hope to raise awareness and funds for
environmental causes and charities.
