NATIONAL: A childrenswear label designed to showcase Australia's manufacturing capabilities celebrated its industry launch at Fashion Exposed yesterday (February 15).
Called Made Right Here, the children's basics label was developed to promote awareness of Australia's production capabilities, with 100 per cent of its range designed and manufactured on shore. The label has been developed by consultancy firm Australian Fashion Partners in conjunction with Sydney based manufacturer Sphinx Australia.
The debut collection includes tops, dresses and onesies for both boys and girls. The label is looking to add men's and womenswear apparel to the range in future seasons.
Fashion Exposed managing director Marie Kinsella said she was proud to support the home grown label.
“As an industry we know how crucial it is to support domestic manufacturing and this is why I am happy to announce Made Right Here is one of our Fashion Exposed Industry Fund beneficiaries,” Kinsella said.
Managing director of Made Right Here, Dominic Beirne, said he wished more fashion labels would take action against the trend of offshore manufacturing.
“Personally I don’t think it can get any worse; if there is no manufacturing base in Australia, start up fashion labels have nowhere to make their products,” Beirne said.
“This is not only a worrying sign for innovation and expression but signals an end to discovery of home grown talent such as Akira, Easton Pearson and Romance was Born – all of whom manufacture in Australia.”
