SYDNEY: Kate Sylvester will open her first Australian retail store next week, with further store roll outs under consideration.

The new flagship store on Oxford Street, Paddington will open its doors on December 8. The capacity of the 90sqm site to accommodate all three of Sylvester's labels was a large part of its appeal, she said. The designer produces Kate Sylvester Womenswear, Kate Sylvester Menswear and young womenswear label, Sylvester.

"We've been planning to open an Australian store for a couple of years and it was just a matter of finding the right locations," Sylvester said. "We are really looking forward to showing our Australian customers our entire brand vision through the retail store not to mention offering our collections in their entirety."

The store will also stock Kate Sylvester eyewear and footwear, plus a range of bags, jewellery, lingerie and accessories from other labels, including Lollapalooza, Zoe Mou, Ilse Jaconson, Meadow Lark and Elke.

The Sydney site will add to the three retail outlets that Sylvester currently operates in her native New Zealand, and more retail investments are planned.

"We are definitely keen to open at other Australian locations in the future. We have a fantastic customer base in Melbourne so that is a location we are thinking about," Sylvester said.

The first collection to drop into the new Sydney store will be the spring/summer 'Take A Hike' range, which Sylvester debuted at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (RAFW) in May 2009. The designer confirmed RAFW is "definitely on the agenda" again for 2010.
