DODGY PAPERS LEAD TO SACK
UNITED STATES: Approximately 1500 American Apparel factory employees in LA face dismissal this month because of lack of proof regarding their immigration status. Problems with employment records such as fake social security numbers are also key to the cull. The move follows a government inspection that found the workers did not appear to be authorised to work in the US. The company chief executive Dov Charney said he would aim to reinstate the workers if they sorted their immigration papers. The dismissals account for more than 10 per cent of the company’s workforce of 10,000.
