MELBOURNE: Guess Australia’s launch into the e-commerce sector has come on the back of strong retail and wholesale growth, with 35 stores and a whopping 1020 accounts currently held across the country.

As first reported on www.ragtrader.com.au, the international fashion giant has launched an online store specifically for the Australian market, offering handbags, wallets, shoes and accessories for men and women.

The brand re-entered the market just eight years ago with two retail sites and no wholesale presence. Guess domestic distributor Busbrand confirmed 90 per cent of its current wholesale accounts were for its handbag range only, which is available through all major department stores and a broad selection of independent fashion retailers.

Busbrand managing director Simon Nankervis said an e-commerce arm was the next logical step for the brand in Australia, with the launch of its branded website coming just late last year.

“The internet has become a major part of how the Australian consumer shops and we are excited to be able to offer Guess to everyone in Australia, no matter where they are located,” he said. “We also intend to continue expanding our freestanding real estate portfolio.”

The brand kicked off its venture into online retailing by offering consumers a selection of new season styles, not yet available for purchase in retail stores. The website features a dedicated section for new arrivals and bestsellers, and product offerings are updated regularly. Product search options include size, colour, range and price, with each item description featuring dimensions, colour swatches, handle, closure and pocket information.

Highlights from its latest offering include the Berlin Boxbag ($235) in opaque python trimmed with pale gold hardware; the Drew Small Hobo ($165) in soft-pebbled vinyl with glossy trim and the Jacko Small Satchel ($215) featuring pale toned hardware, plaited handles and central stitching.

Consumers who sign up for a Guess account will also be able to preview ‘members-only’ prices and other special offers. A 1800 number and email service has been launched to cater to online customer enquiries.

Established in 1981, Guess has licensees and distributors in South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Middle East. Its product portfolio includes men’s, women’s and children’s apparel as well as accessories.
