MELBOURNE: The Myer board has announced the appointment of a new non-executive director, effective today.

Melbourne based Peter Hay, who is a director of the Australian and New Zealand Banking Group, has joined the team.

He is a director of Alumina, GUD Holding and NBN Co. Hay is also a chairman of the Advisory Board of Lazard in Australia and is a director of Melbourne’s Epworth Foundation and Landcare Australia.

His experience extends to legal practice and investment banking. He is a former chief executive officer of law firm Freehills where he advised on corporate law relating to mergers and acquisitions.

Myer chairman Howard McDonald said he was delighted with the appointment. He said that Hay's experience in legal and government matters would complement the expertise of other board members.

“On behalf of the board and shareholders I welcome Peter to Myer and look forward to him making a substantial contribution in the years ahead,” he said.

Hay joins McDonald, chief executive officer Bernie Brookes, Rupert Myer, Anne Brennan and Tom Flood on the board of the department store.
