E-Christmas a hit
NATIONAL: Apparel and accessories visits have attracted the highest year-on-year growth for online ‘shopping and classifieds’ in the lead up to Christmas, according to web measurement firm Hitwise. The category grew by 18.2 per cent when the week ending November 14 2009 was compared to the same week last year. It beat out other key sectors such as electronics, books and music. Researchers credited the move to increased investment among key vendors including Sportsgirl, Kathmandu, Oroton, Witchery and Pumpkin Patch.

Wise warning
SYDNEY: Trend forecasting giant WGSN has warned Australian retailers to “never underestimate the blogger”. During a recent trade seminar in Sydney, senior fashion editor Sue Evans told audiences that bloggers were the new voice of authority when it came to what’s hot and what’s not. She pointed to Scott Schuman, founder of street style blog The Sartorialist, as one of the more influential movers and shakers, with a recent book launch at London Fashion Week so popular that consumers had to endure a four-hour wait to receive a signed copy. Schuman also shot a campaign for Australian retailer Saba earlier this year.

A merry milestone
NATIONAL: Consumer fashion magazine Marie Claire (Australia) has celebrated its first year on social networking site Twitter. The title has a dedicated mobile editor and digital managing editor, who manage its presence on Twitter, Facebook, mobile phones and online. Marie Claire used these platforms to cover multiple fashion events, launches and initiatives this year including Rosemount Australian Fashion Week spring/summer 2009. The magazine “tweeted” live commentary and photos of the event to followers.
