SYDNEY: Awards were flowing at opening day of Fashion Exposed yesterday, with the winners of the Debut competition and best exhibitor stands announced.

Designer Elissa Brunato of label E'Senk took honours in the Debut Apparel Award, for her capsule womenswear collection called Mind's Eye. The Canberra Institute of Technology graduate created linen pants, silk tops and silk dresses with hand-dyed designs.

The Debut Accessory Award went to Clair Hammon and Greg Fromont of New Zealand based jewellery brand Meadowlark, which comprised silver rings with dramatic stones, intricate earrings and necklaces.

The Avant Garde Award went to designer Bradley McLennan for his couture inspired, fitted black gown called Pre-packaged Lover II.

At the evening cocktail celebration for exhibitors, awards for the best exhibitor stands were announced. Best overall stand went to womenswear brand Dada & Co, the best stand in lingerie category Allure went to Leg Avenue and for Bags and Accessories Fair to Fabienne International. The best stand at the Australian Shoe Fair was awarded to sneaker label Superga.

It is the 20th season of the event, with over 600 companies exhibiting. It continues at the Sydney Convention Centre, Darling Harbour, until 4pm Tuesday 16 February.
