MELBOURNE: Department store and boutique fashion label Cylk will launch a shapewear range with a difference next month.
The Melbourne-based brand, which is currently in New York as part of a G'Day USA Fashion Designer Showcase, will roll out a five piece 'eco-luxe' collection from February.
Brand manager Keshia Abeysekera claimed cylk body, which is priced from $50 to $100, will be the first shapewear product on the market to be produced from bamboo.
Employing seamless knitting technology, each piece is manufactured using a 70 per cent bamboo blended yarn and has anti-bacterial and hypo-allergenic properties. The line will be available through selected boutiques, department stores and via the brand's dedicated website.
"Cylk has been continuously developing new blends, particularly using bamboo and identified this as a gap in the shapewear market as all of the leading lines are made up using synthetic fibres," Abeysekera said.
"Being shapewear, it is important that the pieces conform to the individual's shape while also remaining comfortable and breathable in all climates."
The five piece collection includes a contour brief, waist definer, sculpting slip, streamline tank and slip in sizes XS to L.
Cylk launched over spring/summer 2006 with a small capsule collection of garments produced from 100 per cent silk. It has since garnered a reputation for creating contemporary basics, essentials and ready-to-wear garments from super fine bamboo, silk and modal blends.
Major department store clients include Fred Segal, Henri Bendels, Mitsukoshi and David Jones. The brand was selected to take part in G'Day USA's Fashion Designer Showcase, joining the likes of Amar, Nicholangela and Pizzuto in New York from January 20 - 21.
