GOLD COAST: Swimwear labels affected by the cancellation of Sanctuary Cove Swim Fashion Week may now find solace in a new swim fashion initiative.
The business development arm of Gold Coast City Council, BusinessGC, has announced funding for a swimwear industry showcase to be held on the Gold Coast in March. Called BusinessGC Swim 2010, the event is designed to promote business opportunities for Gold Coast-based swim labels.
National buyers, retailers and agents will be invited to attend the showcase, which will include two days of business meetings and an evening catwalk show.
Gold Coast City Council's manager of economic development, Grayson Perry, said a number of designers were already locked in to participate in the inaugural instalment.
“We have already confirmed the involvement of several Gold Coast swim designers including White Sands, Cheeki Charlie, Kulu, Capriosca and Mojoz, with further announcements to come,” Perry said.
The launch of BusinesGC Swim 2010 comes just one month after IMG Fashion Asia Pacific announced the cancellation of Sanctuary Cove Swim Fashion Week. IMG's regional marketing and communications director Graeme Lewsey attributed the cancellation to a lack of corporate funding, though was hopeful the event would go ahead in 2011.
BusinessGC Swim 2010 will run from March 2 to 3 at the Gold Coast City Council Chambers and the Gold Coast Arts Centre.
