LMFF competition open
NATIONAL: Applications are now open for the 2010 L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival Design Award. The competition is for designers in the first five years of business and is judged on design excellence, innovation, quality workmanship and future potential. Entrants must submit a capsule folio of work by November 16. Finalists will appear in a runway presentation at LMFF and the winner will receive $10,000 and a trip to an international textiles trade show as a guest of Woolmark. Creative label Romance Was Born won the 2009 installment while past winners include Ben Pollitt from label Friedrich Gray and TV.
Adelaide showcase
ADELAIDE: First there was Melbourne, along came Perth, Brisbane and Sydney and now Adelaide is joining in on the action. The second annual BMW Adelaide Fashion Festival (BAFF) will take place on November 18 to 21. Aimed at designers, models, retailers, educators, buyers and key industry influencers, the second installment of the awards will feature a TAFE SA end-of-year fashion parade, in-store parties, a fashion stylist luncheon and gala fashion showcase.
Shades on
NATIONAL: The man behind slogan-based T-shirt brand Attitude Inc, Justin Herald, has launched a new diffusion eyewear line. Dubbed Intimidate Industries, the new collection features four styles – Flyboy, Instigator, and Lam Black and Lam White. Boasting retail price points of between $150 and $160, the frames feature engraved logo detailing and tribal patterning down the arms. The range is available initially online only with plans to take it to eyewear stores and boutiques nationally.
Sporting goods conference
MELBOURNE: The impact of the global recession on the Australian sporting goods sector will be debated during a conference being staged at the Melbourne Cricket Ground next month. The conference, staged by the Australian Sporting Goods Association, has been formulated to appeal to all involved in the sportswear industry. The event will be hosted by sports commentator Tim Lane and key note speakers include social researcher Mark McCrindle and Australian Rules figurehead James Hird. Registrations for the event close on September 30.
