MELBOURNE: Key shopping precincts across the city have united in a bid to drive sales for the spring/summer 2009 season.

The City of Stonnington Council - which oversees fashion hubs such as Toorak Road, Chapel Street, High Street and Toorak Village - will host a series of runway and industry forum events from October 7 to 8.

Around 50 local designers have enlisted to take part in two runway parades, with spring carnival racing gear set to dominate proceedings. The Stonnington Fashion Industry Forum will feature industry presentations on future fashion trends, business advice and career insights.

While the event is the first of its kind for the region, two new designers will be inducted into the Stonnington Fashion Hall of Fame, which was first launched in 2001. T.L Wood designer Teresa Liano and retailer Joe Sillitto are set to receive top honours this year, joining the likes of Alannah Hill, Perri Cutten and Jo Saba.

The ticketed event will run across all four fashion hubs, with the Hall of Fashion Fame Gala to be staged on the final evening.
