With alumni including the likes of Alex Perry, Michelle Jank, Akira Isogawa and Lisa Ho, it was expected that TAFE NSW Fashion Design Studio students would impress at the 2009 Dylon Colour Awards.

Using Dylon colour dyes and reams of unprinted white fabric, first-year students were challenged to produce an outfit which blended two or more cultural references - i.e. African zebra stripes meet Japanese florals.

Judges, including designers Karla Spetic and Carl Kapp and Ragtrader editor Assia Benmedjdoub, were blown away by the level of technical expertise among the young designers.

Elle Haines took out top honours (centre design), followed by Irma Gunadi (right) and Anna Langdon (left), while Carlie Waterman, Katherine Spasich, Ashleigh Nicholls and Stephanie Goerlach were all highly commended.
