NATIONAL: The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) will conduct four online webinars throughout January to help retailers understand the new Fair Work legislation.
The industry body aims to equip retailers for the major industrial relations changes, of which the second phase came into effect on January 1 this year.
ARA executive director Russell Zimmerman said it is critical retail employers operating in the cities and regional areas are prepared for the laws to avoid penalties for non-compliance.
“This is now particularly important for sole-traders, partnerships and unincorporated bodies where state industrial relations laws (all states except WA) have been referred to the national industrial relations system,” he said.
On January 12 the webinar topic will be Overview of Fair Work Act, on January 14 it will be Collective Bargaining, on January 18 it will again be Overview of Fair Work Act and on January 29 it will be New Unfair Dismissal Laws.
He expected the webinars would be particularly useful for regional retailers.
“Often retailers in remote areas miss out on critical information regarding changes to legislation, which is why we’re holding webinars to ensure retailers, regardless of location, have the opportunity to understand and comply with new workplace laws.”
Interested participants must register online on the Australian Retailers Association website.
