What was expected to be a tooth-and-nail showdown between the launch of Zara Sydney and Zara Melbourne looks set to be the opposite, with operators speculating the latter store will open around June.
Speaking at a local press conference this morning, Zara chief communications officer Jesus Echevarria revealed an official store opening date for Melbourne had not yet been set. However, Echevarria said it was likely to launch around June.
When asked whether an online shopping facility, currently available to select markets around the world, would launch in Australia, Echevarria said it was unlikely to do so in the near future. He said additional store locations outside Melbourne and Sydney had also not yet been locked in.
A tour of the Zara Sydney flagship, set to launch tomorrow under tight security, reveals price points have not been affected by the logistics of delivering fresh product from Spain to Australia. Jeans were priced at $69.95, chinos at $79.95 and trench coats were from $119.
A statement red lantern dress was priced at $219, a brushed wool coat also at $219, a suede leather bag at $139, a fur vest at $239 and leather booties at $159.
