Fashion industry icon Carla Zampatti has been selected to front Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) 2014 as the “Mercedes-Benz Presents” designer for this year's event.

IMG Fashion and Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific confirmed today that Zampatti will showcase her collection on Sunday April 6, to kick off the official MBFWA schedule for 2014.

The “Mercedes-Benz Presents” program recognises designers that demonstrate dedication to the use of quality materials, unique style and innovative design.

The honour sees Zampatti, a former recipient of the pretigious Australian Fashion Laureate award, join a raft of iconic designers such Australia’s Easton Pearson and Johanna Johnson who have previously been selected for “Mercedes-Benz Presents”.

Globally, Zampatti joins ranks with designers including Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Hervé Léger by Max Azria, Narciso Rodriguez, Schumacher, Mattijs Van Bergen and Alena Akhmadullina.

Commenting on the decision, Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific CEO Horst von Sanden said he welcomes Zampatti to the fold.

“Carla Zampatti is undoubtedly one of Australia’s most established and influential designers. We are honored to welcome her into the ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ program, which continues to support the industry globally.”

“Luxury craftsmanship and classic lines are considered from every angle in a Carla Zampatti garment, as it is in the creation of a Mercedes-Benz car which is a creative synergy we are celebrating through the ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ show,” he said.

Zampatti said she is honoured and looking forward to the event.

“I am delighted to work in partnership with a brand like Mercedes-Benz. It is synonymous with innovative, timeless design and excellent quality just like my own brand. I feel very honoured to have been asked to open this prestigious event.”

‘Mercedes-Benz Presents Carla Zampatti’ is scheduled for 5:00 pm on Sunday April 6 at Carriageworks, the home of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.
