Efficiency of postal services? Australia says it's not delivering.

A new study commissioned by on demand courier service, Zoom2u, reveals that Australians have had enough of waiting for goods to arrive on their doorstep and queueing in post offices.

Of the 1054 people surveyed, 55 per cent said they would shell out an extra $5 for express delivery on items under 2kg.

49 per cent of respondents said that a 3 hour delivery option for clothing, shoes and accessories is important, with 70 per cent leaning more towards immediacy for appliances such as fridges and washing machines.

It seems as though millennials are the most impatient when it comes to getting goods on time, with 93 per cent of 18-24 year olds agreeing that the 3 hour delivery option would be useful, compared to 78 per cent of over 50s.

On top of that, 32 per cent of 18-24 year olds would be willing to pay an extra $10 for the service and 14 percent would pay $15.

Australia is expected to spend around $27.1 billion on online shopping this year, which Zoom2u CEO Steve Orenstein believes should prompt e-tailers to up their game to meet efficiency demands.

"These findings prove that costs of delivery are not prohibitive to online orders as long as the delivery is fast.

"Waiting weeks for your online orders to arrive and having no idea when they will eventually turn up on your doorstep or at your local post office is the real deterrent for businesses who want to expand their online sales and build customer loyalty."
