Australian retailer, Big W, has had to recall Ray Ban brown tortoise shell sunglasses, after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) found that the glasses did not meet safety standards surrounding 'sunglasses and fashion spectacles'.
The non-prescription lenses in the glasses have been found in some cases to crack or break under pressure and there may be a variation between the left and right lens. These hazards can pose potential eye damage to consumers.
The sunglasses had been sold in South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria at Big W Optical stores from November 2016 to January 2019.
"Big W takes product safety seriously and wishes to advise customers of a product recall on the [Ray Ban brown tortoise shell sunglasses - style RB4175]. Big W apologises to its customers for any inconvenience caused by this recall," Big W said in a statement.
Consumers are advised to stop using the sunglasses and return them to a Big W Optical store for a full refund.
The recall does not apply to prescription sunglasses.
