PETA Australia has congratulated Hugo Boss for creating a completely animal-free men's suit for its spring/summer collection.
After many years of talks with PETA Germany, the fashion label has launched the suit which sports a 'PETA-Approved Vegan' logo in South Africa.
PETA Australia spokesperson Emily Rice said that the organisation was thrilled to see Hugo Boss launch the vegan suit.
"We are delighted to see that animal-friendly fashion is in demand in South Africa and around the world.
"People can now buy business suits that are not only stylish and fashionable but also cruelty-free and sustainable," she said.
Unlike most premium suits which are made from animal-derived materials like wool, horsehair, or silk – all of which PETA says are associated with animal suffering – the Hugo Boss vegan suit is made of certified organic European linen.
Hugo Boss joins more than 1,000 fashion brands and designers worldwide that have already had their products or collections certified to use the PETA logo, among them Australian brands Zhivago and Mimco.
