Retail hub Melbourne Central has announced it will open 11 new stores in time for Christmas.

The announcement follows the major roll out of 22 stores this year including South African apparel chain MRP which launched in the centre last week.

Consumers can expect openings from the likes of cult beauty brand Sephora and designer shoe brand M Dreams which hosts designer footwear label Melissa shoes.

The centre's lower ground level will be first up for redevelopment, with new tenants set to launch as early as the end of October.

GPT head of investment management for retail believes the addition of new stores will elevate the centre's standing as a key shopping destination.

“2015 has been a huge year for Melbourne Central.

“We look forward to commencing the transformation of the Ground Level next month and welcoming both big name international flagships and independent local labels to create a retail experience which is unconventional and unexpected.”

Melbourne Central is currently a GPT managed retail asset and is home to around 300 stores.
