Not-for-profit emerging technology innovation network Stone & Chalk has announced two new board appointments at its AGM.

This includes former Myer boss Richard Umbers, who has joined the board as non-executive director.

After a three-year tenure as Myer's CEO, Umbers spent 18 months overseas in a role with German company Kaufland.

He returned to Australia in early March on "gardening leave" following Kaufland's abrupt exit from the Australian market in January.

“I am thrilled to be able to contribute to an organisation right at the forefront of innovation in Australia. Stone and Chalk is playing an important role in the success of Australian business, leveraging technology as a driver of growth,” Umbers said.

Stone & Chalk chair Leona Murphy said Umbers skills and experience would be invaluable to Stone & Chalk at a time when the private sector was experiencing accelerated change and digitisation.

“Richard brings a wealth of experience at a CEO and executive level with demonstrable skills in digital, innovation and transitioning bricks and mortar businesses into online marketplaces.”

Umbers left Myer in 2018, after its chairman and board decided change was needed to "turbocharge" its attempts to quash falling sales and profits.
