The Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival is pulling up stumps.

The event will set up a new home at the iconic Melbourne Museum Precinct next year.

Melbourne Museum Precinct, located at Carlton Gardens, is the largest museum complex in the Southern Hemisphere, spanning 80,000 square metres of floor space across six levels.

Runways and activations will take place at the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne Museum, and its surrounds.

The Business Events Series will continue to be held at Crown.

The 2016 edition will mark the twentieth Festival and run from March 7 to March 13.

Festival CEO, Graeme Lewsey said the event will reach new heights next year.

"Our twentieth Festival provides the opportunity to reflect on all that the Festival has achieved over the years and we are thrilled to partner with the internationally significant Melbourne Museum Precinct in 2016 and beyond.

"We can't wait to deliver another stand-out program and more exciting new initiatives that will come to light as we get closer to the Festival."

The 2015 Festival attracted over 390,000 attendees across a total of 137 events on the official program.
