Westfield Sydney has created its first ever 'Christmas Express' service for customers, however a peak industry body is calling for festive cheer closer to home.
Christmas Express allows customers to shop online and have it delivered for free.
The service, via westfield.com.au/christmasexpress, is available to any shopper from December 3 - 24.
Free delivery is available to customers within a 2km radius of Westfield Sydney, with guaranteed arrival within four hours.
Any deliveries outside this radius will incur a nominal fee.
However, the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) has called on Westfield to look after its tenants and reduce all rents for the month of December.
ARA executive director Russell Zimmerman made the call after Westfield announced a $10 million investment in Christmas spending, as well as tomorrow's Super Saturday event.
"The Super Saturday event shows retailers are taking the reindeer by the horns, creating bargains for consumers and ensuring the lead up to this Christmas promises the best shopping yet.
“While retailers embrace opportunities to create additional revenue over Christmas it must be remembered it’s the retailers themselves who generate the additional revenue.
“The main wish retailers have is for Westfield to join the spirit of Christmas by reducing all rents for the month of December so retailers’ margins will be minimally impacted.
“While it’s admirable for a shopping centre to create marketing opportunities for its retailers at such a crucial time, the tenancy framework in its current state indicates landlords are giving with the marketing hand and taking with the rent hand, the balance of power still skewed away from retailers who are struggling to pay rents which don’t reflect CPI or real retail growth.
“Make no mistake; retailers are doing it for themselves this Christmas. They are the ones on the shop floor sharing the joy with customers and their families and contributing to a happy Christmas Day."
Participating Christmas Express fashion retailers include Fleur Wood, Decjuba, im lingerie boutique, Linneys, Morrison, Peep Toe, Saxony, Staccato and Thomas Sabo.
