Second-hand shop Vinnies NSW is adding a new sales channel with the help of resale platform eBay, with the op shop signing onto eBay Live.
eBay Live is a live commerce channel launched by eBay Australia a year ago. Shoppers can tune into live‑streamed events from sellers, see products up close, ask questions in real time, and even bid in dynamic live auctions.
eBay Australia started the new platform by selling trading cards, and has since moved into new categories, including fashion.
Vinnies NSW shared that the 104-year-old charity is embracing live shopping to reach a new generation of collectors and digital bargain hunters in real time.
This comes as live shopping gains momentum in Australia, with eBay research showing 40 per cent of surveyed Australians are interested in shopping via livestreams. This move by Vinnies builds on the launch of its curated online platform, Vinnies Finds, launched in 2025.
Vinnies NSW director of retail and logistics, Virginia Boyd, said she and the team are always looking for ways to innovate and adapt to meet its customers.
“The incredible response to Vinnies Finds demonstrated the huge demand for curated, sustainable shopping online,” Boyd said.
“Stepping onto eBay Live allows us to create an engaging, real-time experience that connects with collectors, sports fans, and digital bargain hunters alike. Every item sold on eBay Live will directly fuel our frontline services, enabling us to provide shelter, food assistance, and crucial support to thousands of individuals and families doing it tough.”
At 6pm AEST on Wednesday, September 30, Vinnies will host an eBay Live stream auction of sporting memorabilia.
Sports fans and collectors can bid in real time on high-value items starting from just $1, including a prized late 90s signed Sydney Roosters jersey, with all proceeds directly funding Vinnies’ community initiatives across NSW.
eBay Live Australia country manager Alaister Low said the live commerce arm on the platform is rapidly changing the way Aussies shop for unique pre-loved items.
“We’re excited to help Vinnies take some of its donated treasures from the op shop rack to eBay Live, turning pre-loved collectables like signed jerseys into funds that support their essential work in the community,” Low said.
