Paris-born jeweller Van Cleef & Arpels has launched a temporary store in Sydney amid an upcoming renovation of its CBD flagship.
The high-end jewellery maison’s Castlereagh Street store, which has held the spot since 2017, will temporarily relocate to 345 George Street. Up to recently, the space has been leased by a few premium tenants, including R.M. Williams, Georg Jensen and Nespresso. It is believed the new store has taken over the former Nespresso space, which was located on the corner of George and Barrack Streets.
Van Cleef & Arpels closed its Castlereagh boutique earlier this month, with the temporary boutique opening shortly after.
The renovated boutique is expected to reopen in early 2027. Van Cleef & Arpels manages five boutiques across Australia, including both the temporary and Castlereagh spaces in Sydney, two in Melbourne and one in Perth.
Housed within an established commercial building, the temporary boutique preserves its original façade. Spanning approximately 200 square metres on a single level, the space is defined by a double-height entranceway.
The façade and internal walls are adorned with custom wallcoverings that are said to be inspired by the maison’s flora, fauna and celestial motifs. The same emblematic collections will be featured in the space.
The temporary store also includes two private consultation rooms.
Van Cleef & Arpels was born in Paris in 1906. Its founding resulted from the 1895 marriage of Alfred Van Cleef and Esther (known as Estelle) Arpels, both from families of jewellery merchants.
Today, the maison has over 155 stores globally, which include standalone stores and concession spaces.
