Jan Logan, the founder of her namesake Australian fine jewellery brand, has passed away.
Logan, who grew up in rural New South Wales, raised her three children with her husband on a property in Narrabri before embarking on a second career later in life. After training as a jeweller, she opened her first store at the age of 50 — an unconventional start that would become a defining part of the brand’s story.
Logan launched her brand in Sydney in 1989.
From the outset, Logan positioned the business around craftsmanship, creative integrity and Australian-made design. All Jan Logan fine jewellery continues to be designed and handcrafted in Sydney, produced by an in-house team of jewellers, gemmologists, stringers and setters. The brand is known for its use of diamonds, gold, silver and coloured gemstones, alongside South Sea and freshwater pearls.
Logan’s design language was marked by contrast — balancing classic and contemporary influences, sculptural and geometric forms, and understated elegance with strong visual identity. That aesthetic remains central to the brand today.
Beyond jewellery, Logan was a strong advocate for the arts and Australian creative talent. Her long-standing love of film informed the brand’s ambassador program, which has featured Australian actors including Rose Byrne, Phoebe Tonkin, Elizabeth Debicki, Sophie Wilde and Aubri Ibrag. The campaigns were positioned to champion female talent, independence and creative expression — values Logan embedded into the business from its earliest days.
Following more than three decades at the helm, the company is now led by Logan’s son, Angus Logan, who serves as managing director. Angus joined the business in 1997 after working in advertising and film, and has overseen its evolution into a business employing more than 30 people, supported by an in-house atelier.
As the Australian fashion and jewellery industry reflects on her passing, Jan Logan is remembered as a late starter who built an enduring, female-led business grounded in craftsmanship, creativity and independence — and as a founder whose influence continues to shape the brand she created more than 35 years ago.
