Ben Pollitt has found new life after ceasing production on his celebrated fashion label Friedrich Gray earlier this year.
The Sydney-based designer has just finished a six-month consulting contract with Chronicles of Never, a luxe streetwear brand operated by Ksubi co-founder Gareth Moody.
Pollitt was enlisted as creative counsel for the brand's autumn/winter 2012 collection, working across design and marketing material such as the seasonal campaign shoot and lookbook.
The role was extended to Pollitt soon after the suspension of his Friedrich Gray in April, a voluntary move brought about by tough trading conditions in the sector.
Moody has come somewhat as a saving grace for Pollitt.
"Gareth and I have known each other on and off for the last couple of years and share a similar design style," Pollitt said. "It was great to work [together] at that pure creative level."
The autumn/winter collection has wrapped sales to Australian and New Zealand buyers, with agents in the US and Europe set to receive the range in January.
It features a series of micro-stories, with three to four pieces per theme, including fleece, wool outerwear, washed leathers, suiting, shirting and a jersey component.
Pollitt has consulted for a number of fashion brands this year, but declined to name them due to client confidentiality interests. He has not ruled out a resurgence of the Friedrich Gray label.
"At the moment I'm just really enjoying working with other brands," he said. "It's freed me up creatively. Maybe somewhere further down the track I will relaunch the brand, but there are people out there really hurting [in this market]."
Launched in 2006, Friedrich Gray has scooped major titles such as the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Designer Award and the Qantas Spirit of Youth Award.
