What's the inspiration behind this huge international collaboration? The laid-back nature of Queenslanders, it seems.

Iconic activewear label, le coq sportif, have teamed up with footwear store Laced to put a spin on their original 'Zenith' style.

'Banana Benders' features rich maroon paired with the same vintage-look mesh and suede, on a netural base of optical white and high rise grey.

It gives a nod to Queensland, where Laced was born in 2006.

The choice of maroon reflects the sporting colours of the state's sporting teams, whilst the name and banana emblem featured on the sneaker reportedly represents the colloquial nickname given to its residents.

“The saying goes that “Queenslanders have nothing better to do than sit around bending bananas. Whilst many collaborative projects are created with a theme from the beginning this detail came last-minute to add a touch of personalisation to the project. For us, maintaining a sense of humor is important.”

'Banana Benders' will pre-release in Laced on March 27th, before launching in a range of global retailers including: Highs and Lows (Perth), Up There (Melbourne), Above the Clouds (Sydney), USG (Adelaide) and international doors including Collette (Paris), Sneakernstuff (Stockholm), Hanon (London) Bodega (Boston), 24 Kilates (Barcelona), Atmos (Tokyo), Solebox (Berlin) and more.

The design will retail for $159.95.
